The miller has three sons.
2. The old miller left the mill, the donkey and the cast to his sons.
3. The youngest son got the cat.
4. He was upset because his brothers had the mill and the donkey. They could put them together and make enough money to live an honest life. And what could he do? He could eat the cat and could make a hat out of his fur. But then he had nothing and could die of hunger.
5. The cat said that he was not a bad thing and more useful alive than dead. He asked for a bag and a pair of boots to prove that.
6. The master agreed to supply the cat with everything he asked for. He told the cat that he was going to order the boots immediately.

1. The miller's youngest son had two brothers. They all helped hsi father at the mill. But elder brothers went along well together and the youngest one was alone.
2. The youngest son was very upset when he got a cat after his father's death. He wanted to work and get money not to die of hunger. He compared himself with his brothers who got the mill and the donkey and could make enough money working together. He didn't even think about doing something wrong or illegal. He just thought what he was going to do with the cat and understood that he couldn't live long without food and money.
3. He thought that the cat was very good at catching rats and mice. He had played so many cunning tricks on them. He had never come home without a rat or a mouse. He had hidden in the wheat, or pretend to be dead. And the young man understood that perhaps the cat could help him after all.
